Brian Derfer is the Chief Innovation Officer of Agile Six, whose mission is transform the working relationship between government and the private sector — to empower more human-centered and value-driven collaboration, to deliver better services and digital experiences, to improve the value of IT expenditures, and to create a more responsive government. Brian blends nearly 20 years of hands-on experience in the software industry with a background in cognitive anthropology in order to bring a unique naturalistic and human-centric perspective to service design and implementation. He has authored a number of white papers on Agile practices and culture, including The Agile Ecosystem — A Guide to Maximizing your Investments in Agile Transformation and The Agile Risk Management (ARM) Framework. Prior to joining Agile Six, he was involved with several start-up ventures as founding partner or early associate in vertical markets that include healthcare, education, and social media. His main areas of focus include Agile frameworks, software development best-practices, domain-driven design, artificial intelligence, and web and mobile development. Brian holds a Master’s Degree in Cognitive Anthropology from UCSD, and is a Certified Scrum Master through the Scrum Alliance. He is named on three US patents.
