Inside the Psychology of Successful Entrepreneurs
Limited Capacity filling up

IDEA TRACK KICKOFF MEETING.  Most successful entrepreneurs were not born that way…they were conditioned to succeed. There are mental and psychological pieces, when aligned correctly, that separate those who win versus those who do not. The best entrepreneurs apply a few smart brain hacks to achieve greatness. We are going to look under the hood at what makes an entrepreneur tick and give you the pieces necessary to succeed.
  • The cognitive psychology of change, comfort zones, and affirmations
  • Contribution networking (a high powered networking technique)
  • One trick to massively improve your focus
  • The secret to delegating like a professional
  • Getting other people to promote your efforts (third party affirmations)
  • Shifting how you give recognition (the single most impactful activity)
Please join us for our kickoff meeting with local entrepreneur, journalist and educator Jabez LeBret who will share his knowledge of the entrepreneurial mindset and teach us to tap power we never knew we had.  This is the perfect session to get you in the right frame of mind for Startup Week - and beyond.

Entrepreneur Matching and Speed Networking
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Even at a crowded business event, it can be difficult and awkward to meet new people.   This event will help you meet dozens of smart and creative entrepreneurs from San Diego in a fun and professional environment.  In this business exercise we will briefly interview each other - so you will be asked to find out what people want, what they do - and as much as possible in the few minutes allotted, what makes them tick.

Other participants will interview you as well - so come prepared to quickly answer that standard “what do you do” question - but don’t worry if you don’t have a polished elevator speech or even know exactly what you want to do. This is a learning experience for all of us will be a great workout for both your communicating and listening skills.

Experienced entrepreneurs are welcome - and encouraged - to join us but this event is especially important for idea stage entrepreneurs.   It will be a PERFECT way to begin Startup Week and will help you find potential partners, collaborators, and maybe even make some new friends as you begin your entrepreneurial journey.

NOTE:  Business cards are recommended for this event but they are NOT required - we understand that many entrepreneurs with new or idea stage venture might not have them yet.

TOWN HALL MEETING: San Diego Startup Ecosystem- Where are we and where do we need to be?
Limited Capacity seats available

Should San Diego strive to be the next Silicon Valley, or should we follow our own unique path?   This town hall meeting will address one of the most important questions facing this community:  the current state and future direction of the San Diego Startup Ecosystem.   What is working, and what isn’t in the region?  Who is being left out?  Can we be more inclusive?  How can we make sure all our residents have the opportunities and resources to give their startups a fighting chance?  Don’t miss this no-holds-barred meeting, where we will be tackling some of the toughest issues facing the San Diego startup community in a forum where diverse voices, opinions and ideas will be welcome.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  We will have a special podium set up for brief “points of view” presentations where participants can voice their unfiltered opinions about the San Diego Startup Ecosystem.  This can include things that are missing from the ecosystem or things that are going well that should be expanded  - as well as current community initiatives and ideas for future initiatives.  These presentations will be just a few minutes at the microphone but don’t need to be structured as a question to the panel - you can address the audience directly.

The Rise of the Startup Program Manager
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Long gone are the days where Entrepreneurs could garner credibility by being good in one or two areas.  Now they must be well versed in all functions, understanding everything from complex options on going to market, data-driven customer experiences, all while while planning a twenty-vendor deep, cloud-based tech stack for effective marketing, sales, and product development programs.  Plus, they must learn and understand the new languages of investors, legal, customers, vendors, media and their peers.

It can be overwhelming - no one person can possibly have all this knowledge.  As a result, the number of entrepreneurs who get stuck “thinking about starting a business” is 3X more than those who actually start a business.

This is where a “Program Manager mindset” can help. It helps today’s entrepreneurs solve complex problems and manage the people, processes, systems and technologies they need to complete projects.

This session will introduce you to:

  • Strategies for solving complex problems (starting a business IS a complex problem)
  • Program management hacks to stay focused and accelerate idea validation and company launch
  • Examples of proven, tested 90-Day plans to get "unstuck" and complete projects

Don't miss this important session- it will give you an alternative approach to startup development you are unlikely to get elsewhere.

The Entrepreneur's Journey
Limited Capacity seats available

For entrepreneurs there are many road blocks that can derail us from our calling. It is often a lonely road that has us feeling dazed, confused, exhausted, and feeling unsure. Leaving us with many questions such as, what do I do now? What is it that is holding me back? Is this even a good idea?

The purpose of this experiential workshop is to explore the journey of the entrepreneur so we can be better prepared for when it happens to us. We will start with our own inspiration and learn how to harness it, identify fears and self doubts we develop in our mind and learn how to overcome them, how to turn our ideas into reality, and learn about the biggest tangible resources we can use to create beyond what we believe we are capable of. This workshop will guide entrepreneurs to begin to look differently at these steps in their journey and learn how to overcome those hurdles. To change the story from one of uncertainty to one of empowerment.

"Blue Line" From Veteran to Startup: The Journey to Entrepreneurship"
Limited Capacity seats available

This objective of this interactive discussion for Veterans is to help promote self-exploration after military service that will, ideally, help them create a roadmap. In particular by discussing finding their 'why?' discussing possible obstacles specific to veteran entrepreneurs and startup success.

Understanding what your driving factors are is crucial because more often than not, people/investors buy into why you are doing something rather than the actual product or service you are providing. People will support and invest in the driving force behind your mission/dreams/goals when they know exactly why you are pursuing something.
